Review:

Horror icon Vincent Price's name lives on in film and thanks to Bluewater Comics, in funny books as well.  Vincent Price Presents brings us some of Price's notable films as well as new stories developed with his estate in comic book form.  This issue features a tale of a lone traveler with nothing but his motorcycle and an urge to travel across the country.  He hears ghost stories and urban legends in various small towns along the way but he runs into the genuine article this time.  After nearly running over a beautiful woman on a secluded road, the two run away from a giant spider...man.  Seriously this guy has eight appendages and would give Doc Ock a run for his money.  The monster pursues them and is fought tooth and nail.  I won't reveal the twist at the end but it's a finale fitting of the Price name.

Writer C. Edward Sellner crafts this story and it feels like a pretty basic and straightforward one.  Boy meets girl.  Boy meets monster.  Boy and girl run.  Boy and girl fight monster.  Surprise!  It is an intriguing little tale though.  It feels like something out of an old Tales From the Crypt comic.

The art by Manoel Moreira fits the story well.  The panels are solid and clear with a slight cartoon vibe to them.  Overall they don't stand out too much but they don't take away or distract you from the story.

This issue was a quick read, but fun.  Bluewater has a good ongoing book here in that a reader can jump in with any issue and enjoy it.  There's no need to worry about tons of continuity or back story.  All you need to know is that Vincent Price's name is on the cover.  That should validate your price of admission.
