Occult physician Dr. Vincent Morrow has been absent from comic shelves since December of 2011. He's been sorely missed. Fortunately, creators Brandon Seifert and Lukas Ketner are bringing him back for volume two of Witch Doctor. Entitled Mal Practice, the new mini-series starts off with Morrow waking up with no memory of what (or who) he did last night. Did he just go all out with the partying? Or is there something more sinister about? You can never be too sure when you have the types of patients that he does. Joining Morrow once again will be his paramedic Eric Gast and supernatural patient / experiment Penny Dreadful.
"I'm glad people loved Witch Doctor volume one so much — but we're barely getting warmed up!" said writer Seifert, adding, "Mal Practice has more monsters, more magic, more medicine and more peril, as Dr. Morrow has to treat a very different patient — himself! And like they say — doctors make the worst patients!"
"This story really ups the stakes and pushes the characters to new levels of desperation — after all, what's a witch doctor to do when he's his own best hope to survive?" said artist Ketner. "I've been waiting to draw some of the stuff in Mal Practice since the very beginning of Witch Doctor, and I'm relieved that we're finally taking the bandages off for all to see!"
Witch Doctor was the first new original title selected by Robert Kirkman for his Skybound imprint at Image Comics and for good reason. It was my top horror comic of 2011 because it's smart, funny, and unique. It's like a supernatural version of House M.D. but so much better. Needless to say, I'll be checking out the first issue of Mal Practice when it hits comic shops this November.
