With each new announcement, I'm reminded that it's still not February and I still can't play Dead Space 3. The upcoming game from Visceral Games and Electronic Arts has just announced that players using the Kinect for the Xbox 360 will be able to use voice control to help friends in co-op mode. This will make it easier for players to give each other health or ammo, find objectives, revive each other, and more.
"The voice commands in Dead Space 3 give players a unique way to take down the terror, whether they choose to face the Necromorphs alone in single-player, or alongside a friend with drop-in / drop-out co-op," said Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producer on Dead Space 3 and VP, General Manager of Visceral Games. "Dead Space 3 delivers the action-horror experience our fans have come to know and love. And with the ability to survive the adventure alone, with a friend, or with Kinect, we're excited about extending the spine-tingling Dead Space experience to a whole new audience of players."
I'm not entirely sold on the Kinect in general. I have one but I haven't used it for much more than pausing Netflix so I can go to the bathroom or taking stupid pictures of myself. I'm excited to see what developers like the folks at Visceral Games can do with it though. Maybe I won't be running around my co-op partner trying to figure out which button to press to give him some ammo as I'm trying to hold off a swarm of Necromorphs. That would help.
Dead Space 3 will be available on February 5th, 2013 in North America and February 8th, 2013 in Europe.
What do you think of this added functionality for Dead Space 3? Will you enjoy shouting commands at your co-op partner?
