VAMPIRELLA MEETS ALIENS AND THE ARMY OF DARKNESS (SEPARATELY)

Vampirella is a horror legend in her own right.  This year she comes face-to-face with two other monsters of the industry in comic crossovers featuring Aliens and Ash Williams (separately, although it would be absolutely amazing if they were all in the same book).

Dynamite Entertainment has announced a July release for the first issue of a four-part mini-series entitled Vampirella / Army of Darkness.  Written by Mark Rahner and illustrated by Jethro Morales, the comic takes place while Ash Williams is trapped in the England of 1300 AD.  Ash catches wind of a horrific flying Deadite, not unlike the one he shot out of the air when he first arrived, but far deadlier and sets out with his trusty boomstick and chainsaw to protect his adopted people.  Meanwhile, a raven-haired temptress wants to give him some sugar...as his last meal.

Writer Mark Rahner says, "I loved writing Ash in Vampirella / Army of Darkness. He's the rare combination of completely oblivious buffoon who's also somehow incredibly cool when he has to be. The Vampi stories I've done have been sick satires of other pop culture horror - Buffy, True Blood, and Kolchak in the 100th issue special. I'm excited to write her in more of a straight-ahead (well, mostly) horror-adventure. This Vampirella is less superhero and more occult temptress and monster... and she definitely doesn't belong in 1300 A.D."

Vampirella / Army of Darkness #1 will feature multiple covers by artists such as Tim Seeley and Jae Lee.  A “Cute” variant by Tony Fleecs will be available exclusively to subscription customers.  Expect it to arrive some time in July.

From the past, we now jump to the stars with Aliens / Vampirella thanks to a collaboration between Dynamite Entertainment and Dark Horse Comics.  There's not a whole lot of information about this title just yet.  What we do know is that it's written by Corinna Bechko.  No artist or release date has been confirmed at this time, but that doesn't mean I'm not excited about this.  I'm very intrigued by how these two properties can crossover.

Writer Corinna Bechko says, "I've loved Alien since I first saw it as a kid on a crummy old TV in a well-lit room and got scared half to death anyway. Now that I have the chance to add a little corner to that universe I couldn't be happier. And pitting such an implacable horror against Vampirella? That's a meeting that definitely produces very fertile story-telling ground. The Alien franchise has always thrived with strong women in the lead. Smart, self-assured Vampirella is a joy to write for, even when she may have met her match."

I love good old-fashioned comic book crossovers so I'm interested to see how these two pan out.  Which one of the two are you most looking forward to?  Who would you like to see Vampirella team up with next?
