Robert Kirkman and Chris Giarusso announced a new project at Emerald City Comicon last weekend: The Walking Dead for Kids.  The book would be a panel-by-panel recreation of the hit zombie comic using Kirkman's original scripts and drawn by Giarusso in his kid-friendly style that's been seen in G-Man and Mini-Marvels.  Unfortunately for everyone, this amazing project was announced on April 1st so it is of course, a total prank.

Image has announced that Giarusso will be re-creating twelve classic first issue covers as variants for upcoming Image comics.  First up will be Youngblood, but no definite word on whether or not The Walking Dead for Kids will get an actual variant yet.  I for one hope so because that is just such a great cover.  I was able to get a sketch from Giarusso at NYCC last year and I'm a big fan of his artwork.

"Twenty years ago, I was eagerly anticipating the launch of Image Comics," said Giarusso. "Maybe it was partially due to my upcoming high school graduation, but it felt like the whole world was changing. I vividly recall the excitement of seeing the Image books on the shelf for the first time.  It was a new era, and these cover images were instantly iconic. The opportunity to pay tribute to these classic Image covers is an honor and a privilege, and I couldn't be more excited about my role and participation in Image's 20th anniversary celebration."

More covers will be coming in the next few months.  What do you think of this Walking Dead for Kids image?
