Telltale Games and Robert Kirkman, the creator and writer of The Walking Dead for Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics, have announced that their internally developed The Walking Dead video game has sold over one million episodes across PC, Mac, PlayStation®Network, and Xbox LIVE® Arcade.
The Walking Dead is Telltale's fastest-selling game ever. The first episode (of five scheduled) is called "A New Day." Upon it's release a few weeks back, it took the #1 spot on the top download lists for Xbox LIVE Arcade for two weeks straight. It's also been high on the sales charts for Steam and PSN. These figures don't include the iOS version which will be released later this summer. The second episode "Starved for Help" is expected to hit the consoles, PC, and Mac computers this June.
"The most exciting aspect of getting off to such a great start is that this is just the beginning of the five episode series." said Dan Connors, CEO of Telltale Games, Inc. "The Walking Dead fans are going to experience some really great moments in the months ahead that are uniquely influenced by the choices they make throughout the season."
The Walking Dead: Episode One - A New Day follows Lee Everett, a convict who's been given a chance to redeem himself after the world is overrun by zombies. Players meet new and old characters from the comic, visit locations that foreshadow the story of Rick Grimes, and more. Your actions throughout the game will alter how the overall story plays out not just across the first episode, but the full five episode season.
While I love the stories from the Telltale Games titles that I've played (Back to the Future and Sam & Max in the Devil's Playhouse), I'm not a fan of the gameplay. It's slow and can be rather boring. I haven't yet checked out their take on The Walking Dead. Is there any improvement? This first episode is only $4.99 on the PSN or 400 Microsoft Points on XBLA so the price is certainly right. What do you think?
