THE SNARLING KICKS OFF PRODUCTION

It's always nice to hear of new independent horror films kicking of in the UK and in the case of The Snarling, it's even nicer as the filming will take place in my home town. The brainchild of writer/director Pablo Raybould, the film sports a similar premise to recent Kiwi zombie comedy, I Survived a Zombie Holocaust, with a zombie horror film set being attacked by actual hordes of the living dead.

Director Raybould said of the film, "The Snarling is a feature length comedy/horror film which will shot over the course of the next few weeks.

The script was completed at the beginning of last year and subsequently underwent a table read by invited actors, not only going well, but having to be halted on occasion for people to regain composure. Suffice to say, it was received well.

Since then we have attracted a star-studded cast and filmed a trailer in order to attract backing to pay for better equipment, payment and facilities. We have also contacted a few more well known actors and have been overwhelmed by the response.

Up until now we have very little budget and even though there has been no pay, we have still had named actors getting on board purely on the strength and hilarity of the script. The trailer had a screening before a feature at this year's Horror-on-Sea film festival in Southend where it really impressed the audience. The organisers have already booked the film for next year's festival. The film will be shot around this area as I would like to help promote West Midland made films to help restore faith in the area regarding film making and local talent."

Every good indie feature needs to pay homage to its peers and, if possible, pop in a historic genre name here and there. The Snarling has gone for a hat-tip towards An American Werewolf in London, with hospital porter Albert Moses switching places to play a patient in a scene that honours John Landis's classic:

American Werewolf Nod

Raybould says, "We have already shot Albert's scene which was down in Oxfordshire as he doesn't travel too well now. He is an absolute gentleman. The film is peppered with 'nods to' and references to the genre. Albert is one of them of course. Now being the patient as opposed to the porter. (The porter is his real life son Alex). Even the breakfast tray was replicated!"

Alongside the American Werewolf actor, The Snarling's cast also boasts Chris Simmons (The Bill), Julia Deakin (Hot Fuzz, Spaced, Alan Partridge), Laurence Saunders (Doctors), Julie Peasgood (Emmerdale) and Joel Beckett (The Office, Eastenders).

Sounds like this could be a fun project, we'll bring you more info as we get it.
