Oh, Internet.  There are things that you create that I wish you wouldn't (does anyone remember the Hamster Dance?), but then you give birth to some truly amazing wonders that make it all worthwhile.  Slender Man is one such example, coming out of the forums at Something Awful and turning into an Internet phenomenon to terrorize people the world over.  Indie game publisher Midnight City has worked with Slender Man creator Victor Surge to make what they call the definitive experience for the character in their title Slender: The Arrival.  Originally released on PCs through Steam, the title is heading to the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 early this year.

The Arrival is not a basic survival horror game.  Instead, it focuses on the paranoia, stress, and emotions that come from being hunted by the Slender Man.  The creature has the ability to inflict “Slender Sickness” on its victims causing nausea and splitting headaches.  These effects are sudden, intensifying, and often fatal.  Judging from the trailer, those symptoms are felt in the gameplay.  It also reminds me a bit of Alan Wake which is definitely not a bad thing.

In celebration for the game's console debut, two new levels were added.  The folks at Blue Isle Studios went back in to produce more content as well as provide a new layer of polish to the game.  This latest version of the game will give players more insight into the lives of the people that Slender Man has touched.  Once players complete the core game, they'll gain access to new flashback levels shown from the perspective of past victims.  The new console content will also be available as a free update to the standalone PC and Steam versions after the release on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Slender: The Arrival will be available in the first quarter of 2014 as a downloadable title on the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3.
