You know, just the other day I was sitting on the toilet playing Plants vs. Zombies on my phone and I thought “Man, this should really be a comic book.” After I took care of business, I was delighted to find that Dark Horse Comics is doing just that. The publisher has partnered with PopCap Games to release the first official PvZ comics.

Written by Paul Tobin and illustrated by Ron Chan, the six issue mini-series will be available first digitally through the Dark Horse Comics app and a special stand-alone PvZ comics iOS app. After all of the issues are published, they'll be collected in a hardcover later this year entitled Lawnmageddon. The stand-alone iOS app is available now for $0.99 and includes the first issue.

The story within the Plants vs. Zombies comics follows inventor extraordinaire, Crazy Dave as he helps his niece, Patrice and young adventurer Nate Timely as they fend off the “fun-dead” invasion of their neighborhood. Like the game, the comic will be meant for all ages.

“We’re excited to see Plants vs. Zombies come to life as a comic book miniseries from one of the industry’s coolest and most innovative publishers,” said Jeremy Vanhoozer, Plants vs. Zombies franchise creative director at PopCap. “With Plants vs. Zombies Adventures recently launched on Facebook, Plants vs. Zombies 2 becoming available for iPads, iPhones, and iPod Touch devices later this summer, and Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare shambling to market in spring of 2014, it’s a great time to give the millions of Plants vs. Zombies fans around the world a new way to enjoy this beloved franchise.”

The first two issues of Plants vs. Zombies are available now. New issues will be released every week beginning on July 24th, 2013. The collected edition will be released on November 6th, 2013.

Are you ready for some Plants vs. Zombies comics? What other mobile games would you like to see get the funny book treatment?
