Just over a year ago I reviewed Joseph Nassise's fantastic supernatural thriller Eyes to See. Part noir, part horror, all good, Eyes to See is the first novel of a planned trilogy, and finally the second novel, King of the Dead, is just about here.
From the press release:
Would you sacrifice your sight to see the unknown? What if it meant saving the life of your only child? In Eyes to See (Tor, 2011) Joseph Nassise, internationally bestselling author of the Templar Chronicles and Bram Stoker Award-nominated author of Riverwatch, took readers on a nightmarish journey as a man desperate to find his daughter turned to the paranormal for help. With its unique mix of truly terrifying moments and engaging fantasy, this rich tale charted daring new territory in the field. Now, Nassise returns with King of the Dead (A Tor Hardcover; $24.99; On-sale November 27, 2012)-the darkly compelling follow up that takes readers deeper into the chilling world of Jeremiah Hunt.
In Eyes to See (Tor, 2011), Jeremiah Hunt sacrificed his human sight in exchange for the power to see the hidden world of ghosts and darker spirits around him. He uncovered a world of murder and magic that took his daughter from him and nearly cost him his life. But that was only the beginning…
Now, Hunt is on the run from the FBI, who have pegged him as a mass-murdering dark sorcerer. His flight from the law is diverted to New Orleans when is companion, a potent witch, has a horrific vision that the city is under magical siege. When they arrive, they realize that the situation is more dire than they could have imagined: the world of the living faces a terrifying attack by forces from beyond the grave. King of the Dead promises more of Nassise's electrifying writing that will enthrall readers looking for a supercharged, supernatural thrill.
All I can say is I can't wait to tear into this one. Joseph Nassise did a damn good job on setting the groundwork for a potentially great series with Eyes to See and I'm eager to see more of Jeremiah Hunt and friends.
