Some people might argue that if the world were to end, no one would notice any difference in Los Angeles. IDW Publishing is set to put their own spin on a post-apocalyptic LA in Lost Angeles, a new mini-series coming from Kevin Eastman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Simon Bisley (The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse), and Joe Pearson. Here's the official synopsis:
When all hell breaks loose following a massive comet’s near miss, the sprawling metropolis of Los Angeles is irreparably fractured and claimed by legions of brutal gangs. Perpetually turf-thirsty bands of fierce warriors fight day in and day out to claim blood and respect across swaths of scarce land, battered by cosmically twisted disasters. As civilization recedes into uncompromising tribal life, an anomaly surfaces: two rival gang members, Mikal and Angel, find themselves in the throes of a comet-crossed love affair. Threatening to tear their respective clans apart from within, their love becomes the centerpiece to all-out gang war as Lost Angeles reaches its fever-pitched conclusion over six issues.
Lost Angeles started out as a concept from Eastman and Bisley. Pearson joined the duo to flesh out the story. Bisley will be painting the covers with Eastman on interior art. No date yet on when we can expect the first issue to hit comic stands.
I was sold on Lost Angeles based on the creative team alone. Kevin Eastman gets a permanent pass from me for his hand in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise that is near and dear to my heart. His reboot of the comic at IDW has been phenomenal. Simon Bisley has been impressing me left and right lately but most recently on The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. I'm no familiar with Joe Pearson's work but he's certainly in good company. From the looks of things Lost Angeles is Mad Max meets The Warriors with a bit of Romeo and Juliet tossed in.
