Heavy Metal Magazine is set to celebrate its 35th anniversary this year and they plan to do it with a bang. First up, the first book in The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse, Helldiver is set to hit comic shops on April 13th. Written by Michael Mendheim and illustrated by Simon Bisley, the comic follows Adam Cahill, a warrior forced to guide the Seven Holy Seals that hold back the End of Days. Of course, that's not a job that has a lot of perks and it certainly isn't one that deals with many friendly people. Cahill is attacked by dark forces and sent to Hell where he must seek out souls chosen by Divinity to aid him against the Four Horsemen and decide the fate of Humanity.
That's not all, horror fans! You can get in on the action with the Pestilence Art Contest. Running until April 28th, 2012, artists are encouraged to submit their vision of the famed Pestilence, be it an illustrated or a photograph to the Four Horsemen Facebook page. The top 10 finalists will have their work featured in the September 2012 issue of Heavy Metal Magazine and receive a subscription to the publication. The top 5 will receive signed copies of Helldiver and Dystopia Rising: Table Top RPG from Eschaton Media. Finally, the grand prize winner, chosen from fan votes on the Facebook page will receive an original painting of Pestilence signed by Simon Bisley himself!
"I feel we have created a top-notch horror story that combines the feel of the Matrix with Hellraiser.” said Michael Mendheim, creator and writer. “We’re running the Pestilence Art Contest as a way of saying thank you to Simon’s fans as well as the life-long fans of Heavy Metal.”
Comics legend Simon Bisley adds “This book demanded a lot from the team and I think we all have something to be proud of. I’m thrilled to be a part of the story and to give Kevin Eastman and Heavy Metal Magazine a great way to celebrate 35 years of publishing incredible stories. I can’t wait to share one of my paintings with the winner of the Pestilence Art Contest."
So what are you waiting for, artists? Time is running out to submit your depiction of the Pestilence!
