FREAKTOWN COMICS DEBUTS SLASHERMANIA ON KICKSTARTER

Indie publisher Freaktown Comics definitely has a soft spot for the classic horror films of yesteryear. Whether it's Freddy, Jason, or any of a variety of slashers that had their hey-day in the 1980's, the publisher is celebrating the genre with the release of Slashermania. The upcoming original graphic novel is serving as a tribute to the best and worst of the slasher movies from the 1980's. It's written by Russell Hillman with art by Ron Joseph, Jake Isenberg, and Harry Saxon. Here's the write-up.

1983. Troubled teens from New York and Los Angeles are taken to a summer camp facility to be trained as counsellors and mix safely with other people their own age. Little do they know they are being watched by an audience hungry for sex & violence. They are the designated victims for a bizarre contest of murder and mayhem – WELCOME TO SLASHERMANIA!

Masked maniacs from across the USA, Canada, Italy & the UK compete in various categories: Best Male Solo Death! Best Female Solo Death! Coitus Interruptus! Sin Punishment! Most Creative Kill! Biggest Multiple Death! The coveted Slasher of the Year award!

"And the Slashie goes to..."

When it was first announced, I thought this sounded like Hunger Games for serial killers. Freaktown Comics has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the release of Slashermania. Rewards include digital and physical copies of the comic, additional books from Freaktown, art cards, sketches, prints, t-shirts, and more.

The publisher also plans to release another comic set in the '80s entitled Deadly Burlesque. Set in the Bowery in Lower Manhattan in a small club called the Luxury Lounge, the one-shot comic following a killer murdering burlesque performers.

No specific release dates are currently available for Slashermania or Deadly Burlesque at this time.
