Despite my love for comic books, I just don't get art.  I have no appreciation for the works of Van Gogh, Da Vinci, or Monet.  I don't care.  I'd rather see Captain America punch Adolf Hitler in the nads.  Fortunately there are many more people out there that are far more cultured than I am.  Take Lars for example.  He's the main character in Eddie: The Sleepwalking Cannibal, now in US theaters from Doppelgänger Releasing.  He's an artist who becomes obsessed with a new neighbor who turns into a ravaging flesh eater at night.  Lars has found a new muse, but at what cost?

Here's the official synopsis of Eddie: The Sleepwalking Cannibal:

When Lars’s art dealer Ronny arranges a teaching job in a small town as a “therapeutic measure” to stir up his creative juices, things don't quite turn out as planned.  At first, life in the peaceful small town seems rosy, as he settles in and impresses beautiful fellow colleague Leslie (Georgina Reilly) by taking in the brawny, mute Eddie (Dylan Smith) after the latter’s caregiver passes away. But Lars soon discovers that the façade of serenity hides something unimaginable: Eddie suffers from a rare form of sleepwalking that transforms him from a docile, cereal-obsessed art student into a ravenous sleepwalking cannibal. Initially horrified by Eddie’s dark secret, Lars becomes enthralled by the not-so-gentle giant. Exceptional art comes at a very high price...and how far is Lars willing to go for his next masterpiece?

Eddie: The Sleepwalking Cannibal is directed by Boris Rodriguez and stars Thure Lindhardt as Lars.  Ulrich Thomsen, Wotan Wilke Möhring, Sebastian Blomberg, Katrin Sass, and Burghart Klaussner also appear in the film.

This flick sounds like a fun, offbeat comedy with some gory cannibalism thrown in to mix things up.  I know that's what other quirky movies like Little Miss Sunshine were missing.

What do you think of Eddie: The Sleepwalking Cannibal?  Would you want to hang out with Eddie?  Or would you keep your distance?
