Glasgow-based production company Stay Curious Productions is proud to announce that DYSMORPHIA, the first in a series of short "body horror" films from Scottish horror journalist Andy Stewart, has been selected as part of Grimmfest 2012’s line-up. The film will receive its World Premiere as part of the festival on October 3rd, 2012.
Andy Sewart is the editor of popular horror site https://www.andyerupts.com and also writes from the UK's Scream magazine.
DYSMORPHIA is a dark tale of love, loss and separation which also marks Andy's first "proper" foray into directing which is already receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from such names as The Soska Sisters (American Mary, Dead Hooker in a Trunk), who called it "Quite possibly the greatest short film we have ever seen."
The film is a bleak, intimate and unflinching exploration of the lengths that some people will go to in order to achieve perfection. Adriana Polito of Stay Curious Productions is producing while cinematography is being handled by Paul-John Ross of Koozlick Media.
Andy says, “I originally intended Dysmorphia to feature as part of a self-penned body horror anthology film but decided that it would work far better as a stand-alone short. I wanted to make something that was gruesome, but grounded in real medical conditions, and show that films can look good and tell a story without costing the world. I made the film for £160 ($250).
However, my problem was that I didn’t really know where to start. So, I consider myself fortunate to have been introduced to Adriana, who keeps my arse kicked and has the organisational skills that I sorely lack. The cast and crew, all of whom worked for free, did a wonderful job and Gordon Holliday, who plays “The Man”, is simply incredible. He endured some discomfort but was a total professional.
We are submitting Dysmorphia to several festivals and can’t wait to see what people make of this grisly little self-funded, low-budget film.”Andy is now engaged in development of the second in the series, a “body melt” short entitled LOVE HURTS, which will be filming in November/December 2012.
