Visceral Games, an Electronic Arts (EA) studio, has announced that they're returning to space age horror with Dead Space 3. Set for release in the February, 2013, the new game picks up with our hero Isaac Clarke as he crash lands on the hostile planet of Tau Volantis. Clarke finds that this planet could be the key to putting a stop to the Necromorph infestation that's been plaguing him and the universe. Instead of being in a cramped spaceship, players will traverse icy conditions to encounter all-new Necromorphs, huge bosses, and even some crazy humans.
Fortunately, you don't have to play Dead Space 3 alone in your living room, getting spooked when your cat jumps on your couch. The story will be playable in co-op so you can hunt down Necromorphs with a buddy through a drop-in / drop-out setup. You can still play the game alone, but if you tackle it in co-op, you'll get additional story details that wouldn't be found otherwise. The co-op character is Earthgov Sergeant John Carver.

Dead Space was one of the first games I played on the current generation of consoles and I loved it. It's incredibly creepy with some interesting gameplay and some of the scariest creatures this side of the Mushroom Kingdom. While I own Dead Space 2, I haven't played it yet because I'd rather buy video games and just look at them on my shelf instead of actually playing them. I'm sure I'll get around to it eventually.
Dead Space 3 is due out in February of 2013 and will be available on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
What do you think of this announcement from EA? Are you psyched for some more Necromorph killing?
