CRIMINALS FIGHT OR DIE IN CLUSTER
I've heard of prison inmates being offered reduced sentences in exchange for participation in drug research trials (although I don't know if that's real or not), but what if they were offered the chance to fight in an interstellar war? Cluster from BOOM! Studios provides that option beginning in February 2015.
Created by writer Ed Brisson and artist Damian Couceiro, the comic is set in a distant future where humans have discovered life on other planets. Unsurprisingly, we're fighting these alien races. Short on manpower and desperate to protect its colonies, Earth's government resorts to offering prisoners a chance to shorten their long sentences by serving as soldiers. As more and more soldiers are needed, petty crimes are met with long-term punishments to entice people to sign up. Cluster follows a group of these prisoners-turned-soldiers, stranded on enemy soil. They'll need to work together to survive and uncover the truth behind Earth's role in deep space.
"It feels great to finally be able to share Cluster with the comic book industry," said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. "This is a series we've been working on for a while and we've just been champing at the bit to see it on 'stands. Pairing Ed with Damian is a perfect creative match. We've seen the type of crime-infused stories they're capable of on the Sons of Anarchy comic book. Now we get to see them take that sensibility off world for a truly hard-hitting sci-fi series!"

Cluster feels like a crazy fun sci-fi comic. There are a lot of possibilities with the story and it looks like there might be a conspiracy involved under all this space violence.
The first issue of Cluster will debut on February 4th and retail for $3.99. It will feature a main cover by James Stokoe, a 1-in-99 "Jackpot" variant cover by Simon Roy, a 10th Anniversary incentive cover by Trevor Hairsine, and a retailer incentive cover by Declan Shalvey. If initial orders of Cluster #1 surpass 10,000 copies, a special 10k variant cover by Brandon Graham will be unlocked.
