We've already seen a huge collection of variant covers for the upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer relaunch from BOOM! Studios, but that doesn't mean we don't want any more, right? The publisher has revealed a slew of covers for Buffy the Vampire Slayer #3, due out on March 13th, 2019 to whet your appetite leading up to next month's series debut.

Buffy 3 Wada

First up, here's a new cover for Buffy #3 from artist Kevin Wada featuring everyone's favorite Watcher, Rupert Giles.

“There’s a lot of important lessons in Buffy, but one of the most resonant and truest ones is this: librarians are total badasses. And, as Kevin Wada dreamily illustrates, they’re pretty easy on the eyes, too,” said Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, BOOM! Studios. “Rupert Giles has a huge role to play in this series and we’ll learn that he’s much more than he appears – and we don’t just mean the fact that, if you haven’t heard, he’s quite good at playing an acoustic version of Stairway to Heaven.”

Buffy 3 Taylor

Next up is another cover for issue #3, this time by Mondo illustrator Matthew Taylor featuring a cheerleading Cordelia Chase and an ominous Spike.

“If you think you know the story of Buffy Summers, think again – not only will her relationship to Spike and Drusilla be fundamentally different than we’ve ever seen before, but it’ll affect all her closest friends (and, if the kids still say this, her frenemies) in different ways,” said Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, BOOM! Studios. “Matthew Taylor’s cover hints at the danger that’s literally lurking around every corner, and sets the stage for an explosive final chapter of this first arc that no one – seriously, no one – could ever guess.”

Buffy 3 Buoncristiano

Yet another variant cover for Buffy #3 comes from artist Scott Buoncristiano. This one is an homage to the iconic episode “Hush” from the TV series. This is probably my favorite of the bunch.

“Some episodes of Buffy make you sad or happy or excited or maybe even terrified. But ‘Hush’ made you feel all of them at the same time and it’s one of the reasons it remains a high watermark for storytelling,” said Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, BOOM! Studios. “Scott Buoncristiano’s cover conjures up that emotional stake to the heart perfectly on this cover, as we continue our tribute the best episodes of Buffy.”

Buffy 3 Smith

Finally, here's a pretty cool viking cover from artist Matt Smith, featuring the first appearance of an all-new Slayer from the past.

“Some folks have guessed it, but I’m excited to officially reveal that every issue of Buffy the Vampire Slayer will have a variant cover featuring the first appearance of a previous Chosen One,” said Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, BOOM! Studios. “Matt Smith beautifully introduces a new Viking Slayer that, like the new Slayers on covers to previous issues, may have a larger role in Buffy’s life much sooner than anyone expects.”

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #3 is set for release on March 13th, 2019.
