CARPE NOCTEM: THE KITCHEN SINK OF HORROR COMICS?
New comic publisher Hashtag Comics has announced its new horror series, Carpe Noctem, that's being called a “Kitchen Sink” book as it's filled with just about everything. Written by Martin Dunn and co-written and illustrated by Derrick Fish, the comic takes place in Las Vegas and includes a different take on everything from vampires and zombies to Lovecraftian monsters and Tolkien-esque races. It also blends dark humor with dramatic storytelling and a whole bunch of blood and guts. If there's any room left over, maybe we'll get some robots and clowns for good measure. Here's the write up from the publisher:
Carpe Noctem follows writer Chelsea Nobles as she's thrown into the tumultuous underworld of Las Vegas, imbued with the ancient powers of a Scribe, and assigned the task of documenting the exploits of notorious Sin City entrepreneurs, Jace and Dante Rivera. The brothers, always at odds, are descended from an ancient vampire Goddess. Readers will experience their mysterious world of horror and fantasy through Chelsea's eyes, learning all about the brothers as she does.
The comic is actually an adaptation of a film concept and screenplay created by Hashtag Comics founder Drew Crowder. The publisher is throwing a launch party for the first issue at Heroes Haven Comics in Tampa, Florida, on May 30th, 2015, from noon until 6 PM. Dunn and Fish will be there to sign the books and talk with fans. That weekend coincides with AwesomeCon in Washington, DC where Crowder will be signing and selling convention exclusive variants and showcasing a special sneak peek at issue 2 at the Hashtag Comics booth.
