BUFFY SEASON 11 ANNOUNCED

I thought all the big announcements were supposed to happen at San Diego Comic Con, not before it.  Judging by my inbox, everyone is getting them in prior to the convention so I don't know what they're going to talk about.  Dark Horse Comics has announced, among many other things that I will be reporting on soon, that Buffy the Vampire Slayer will be continuing on for Season 11.  The final issue of Season 10 is set for release in August.

Writer Christos Gage and artist Rebekah Isaacs are returning to the book.  They are a great team that got their start in the Buffyverse on Angel & Faith, a sister title that began in Season 9.  There's no word on that book, but the publisher has stated that this season will only run for 12 issues, which is much less than previous volumes which numbered thirty.  It's set to begin in November.

Season 11 picks up with Buffy and the Scoobies taking a much needed and well deserved break from fighting evil after overcoming the struggles of Season 10.  Of course, they're not allowed to do that so a supernatural disaster wreaks havoc on the citizens of San Francisco, forcing them to save the world once again.

“Buffy fans have been wonderful to Rebekah and me throughout Season 10, so I couldn’t be more excited to keep our creative team together for Season 11!” said writer Christos Gage. “True to form, Joss is not content to just rest on his well-earned laurels, so Season 11 will shake things up with a story that’s shorter, bigger, more epic, and presents what may be the greatest challenge Buffy and the Scoobies have ever faced. We hope the readers will enjoy the ride!”

Dark Horse has been publishing Buffy comics for years, but the TV show officially continued in comic book form with Season 8 beginning in 2007.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Season 11) #1 is set for release on November 23rd, 2016.  It will feature a special Dark Horse 30th Anniversary variant cover by Karl Moline.  I have mixed feelings about this announcement.  I love Buffy as a whole and this creative team is terrific, but Season 10 has annoyed me more than entertained.  Maybe I'm just growing apart from the characters.
