The start of the year is a depressing time; the Christmas festivities are out of the way, you're back at work with the next major holiday being Easter and the weather is decidedly British. As if that wasn't bad enough, it's not even a great time for horror films to be released so it's not like you can spend the cold winter months catching up on new releases. But there is hope, because the Birmingham Horror Con will be taking place on the 4th February 2017 at Edgbaston Stadium.

Normally, all we have to look forward to, convention-wise, in the Midlands is the small selection of horror-related guests at MCM Comic Con, but Birmingham Horror Con promises a line-up that will be much more appealing to horror fans. Guests will include Lee Nicholas Harris (The Human Centipede II, World War Z, Trance), Anthony Ilott (Wrong Turn 6), Hammer scream queen Caroline Munro, the first UK appearance of Nick King whose alter-ego is Buguul from Sinister, the man who played Michael Myers in John Carpenter's Halloween, Tony Moran, and from the Nightmare on Elm Street world, Jsu Garcia (A Nightmare on Elm Street) and Ken Sagoes (A Nightmare on Elm Street III: Dream Warriors and A Nightmare on Elm Street IV: The Dream Master).

On top of the guest line-up (of whom we've only mentioned a handful), there are also appearances from professional cosplayers Mamma Zombie, Claire Rainbow (as the Evil Nun from The Conjuring 2), Lee Thomas as Freddy Krueger, Esmee the Vampire, the Horrify Me photo studio, Heaven & Hell's Heroes as well as exhibitions and demonstrations from DDFX, Savage FX and Rogue Creations FX.

You want more? Then you'll get more. As well as the guests and exhibitors there will also be plenty of opportunites to get your hands on the latest horror merchandise from vendors such as Bleading Marvelous, The Twisted Teapot, Charlotte Clark, The Mini Replica Hut and Rubber Johnnies. Make sure to bring a full wallet!
