THE DEMON RISES AGAIN THIS NOVEMBER
Since DC Comics relaunched its entire line last year with Rebirth, there have been a number of characters absent. I'm still waiting for Bart Allen and Booster Gold to show up. One such character is Etrigan the Demon, the rhyming monster who shares a body with Jason Blood. The publisher has announced he'll be returning in November with a new six-issue mini-series called The Demon: Hell is Earth.
Written by Andrew Constant and illustrated by Brad Walker and Andrew Hennessy, the comic picks up with Jason Blood having exiled himself to Death Valley. He's decided to lock Etrigan away forever, to save the world from the wrath and destruction the creature causes. That changes when a nuclear bomb hits the California desert and cracks open the very foundation of Earth. It's a hole to Hell itself and something's coming up for a visit.

"I was excited to work on a great, slightly lesser exposed Kirby character," reveals Walker. "As I've gotten into Andrew's scripts, I've been having fun doing something tonally different than books I've worked on in the past. It's fun tapping into moody, darker aspects of my art. It has a bit of a Vertigo vibe. It's maybe not a side of me people know, but it's stuff I am a fan of, just as much as the big, bombastic, superhero stuff."
I'm torn on Etrigan. He's a brilliantly designed character that is super powerful, not to mention terrifying, but he talks in a rhyme which gets very annoying very quickly. I'm willing to give this new series a shot. Plus, I love it whenever DC dabbles with horror.
The Demon: Hell is Earth is set to begin on November 15th, 2017.
