PESTILENCE BRINGS ZOMBIES TO THE BLACK DEATH

If you've ever sat in history class and thought that these boring wars and plagues could use some more zombies, have I got a book for you. AfterShock Comics has announced Pestilence, a new series coming this May that theorizes an alternate take on the Black Death that includes a whole lot of undead. The series is written by Frank Tieri, illustrated by Oleg Okunev, and colored by Rob Schwager. Here's the write-up from the publisher:

It’s the late 14th Century, and a Great Pestilence—the “Black Death”— is sweeping across Europe, killing over 100 million people. BUT, what if history as we know it was a lie? What if, in reality, this was no straightforward plague, but the FIRST non-recorded Zombie Infestation of man? Ex-Crusader Roderick Helms and his fellow “black ops” agents the Church, Fiat Lux, must seek out the cause of this undead outbreak and vanquish it before mankind ceases to exist!

"What people don’t realize sometimes is this business often comes down to relationships. And unfortunately I’ve had one with Mike Marts for quite some time… working on everything with him from Wolverine and Batman to the immortal Apocalypse vs. Dracula.” says writer Tieri “So when Mike went over to AfterShock, we knew it wasn’t a matter of IF we were going to work on something together over there, but WHEN. We just needed the right idea to come along. And Pestilence was definitely it."

"Our main character is an ex Crusader named Roderick Helms. He leads a sort of medieval black ops team of knights called Fiat Lux—and what they essentially are is the cleaners for the Church of that era. Think of them like if Mr Wolf from Pulp Fiction was a group from the middle ages. And had really big fucking swords. “ says Tieri “Anyway, they’re the ones who get tasked with stopping the zombie outbreak… but what they find along the way is that zombies are not their only problem. That elements within the Church itself may actually be the bigger issue they have to deal with.”

Pestilence #1 is slated for release this May. It will feature a regular cover by Tim Bradstreet and an incentive cover by Szymon Kudranski.
