tart 5 00

The indie comic book scene has been a hot bed of activity with some pretty great comics being released thanks to Kickstarter.  One title that has caught my eye as of late was Tart, from writer Kevin Joseph and artist Ludovic Salle about a time traveling demon hunter.  The first five issues have been released so far with the most recent leaving things in a bit of a cliffhanger.  Unfortunately, the indie comic model isn't all that conducive to profit and despite several successful Kickstarter campaigns, the creators are not rolling around in money.  That's just not how it works.  Salle couldn't continue with the book at this time.

Fortunately, he gave his blessing for Joseph to continue the project without him which is no easy task considering how great Salle has been on Tart.  Joseph took a chance at Supercon and approached Karl Moline, an artist he admires.  Out of the blue he asked if Moline would ever work on a smaller indie book.  The answer was yes, so long as he had the time and liked the concept.  After reading the first five issues of Tart, the stars aligned and Moline had time in his schedule.  Long story short, he's illustrating, inking, and coloring the next issue.

This is great news for multiple reasons.  Tart gets to continue.  I get to find out the next part of the current story arc.  Moline is a great artist so I'm definitely interested in seeing his take on Tart after his work on Fray and Buffy.  No word yet on official release dates as this is all a work in progress, but it's definitely a good thing.
