I've said it before and I'll say it again, Hellboy's history offers a wealth of stories that can fill out his life.  The character has been around for over twenty years and we've only scratched the surface of his many adventures.  He may be dead and buried in the present day, but that's not going to stop creators from telling more tales of his exploits.  Case in point: Dark Horse Comics has announced a new original graphic novel slated for release next year entitled Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea.

Gary Gianni will be illustrating and co-writing the book.  Creator Mike Mignola is co-writing and providing a cover.  And of course, it wouldn't be a Hellboy comic without Dave Stewart on colors.  Into the Silent Sea picks up after the Hellboy story “The Island” as our hero sets sail from the wreckage of a deserted island.  He ends up crossing paths with a ghost ship and gets taken captive by the phantom crew who plan to sell him to the circus.  Hellboy is dragged along by a captain who will stop at nothing in pursuit of a powerful sea creature.

"I imagine if Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea were a movie, the Hollywood hyperbole would describe it as Hellboy's greatest adventure,” said Gary Gianni. “Yes... it's Hellboy as you've never seen him before, laughing , loving and battling his way across the stormy seas! You'll be thrilled as he faces cosmic forces terrorizing a haunted ship manned by a desperate crew! Be sure not to miss Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea, the biggest comic book event of the year!"

You don't have to work too hard to sell me on my Hellboy.  I'll definitely be checking this book out.  The previous original graphic novels featuring the character have been fun reads as stand-alone stories and this one looks no different.  Look for Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea in 2017.
