ARCHIE HORROR RETURNS WITH NEW ISSUES OF SABRINA AND AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE

At long last, Archie Horror is coming back to the stands.  Both Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Afterlife with Archie are making their long awaited return in May and June, respectively.  I am so pleased to hear this news as both titles are pretty solid.  Unfortunately, they've been marred by incredibly long delays.  Sabrina #4 came out in July 2015 and Afterlife with Archie #8 came out in May 2015.  Since then, things have been quiet on the Archie Horror front...until now.  Writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and artists Robert Hack and Francesco Francavilla are taking us back to those familiar characters to scare the crap out of us some more.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina #5, due out May 18th, continues the battle between the teenage witch and the deadly Madame Satan.  After her botched unholy baptism and the unfortunate fate of her boyfriend, Harvey Kinkle, Sabrina faces her toughest challenge yet in the form of the Witches Council.

Meanwhile, over in the pages of Afterlife with Archie #9, due out on June 1st, we turn our attentions to Reggie, the instigator behind the zombie apocalypse that now threatens the entire planet.  Way to go, Reggie.  We go back to the night that started it all and ask the question: Is redemption possible for Reggie Mantle?

"There’s no excuse for late books, just apologies," said Aguirre-Sacasa, promising additional issues of Afterlife and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina are in progress.  We know how much these books mean to you—so thank you, thank you, thank you for sticking with us through thick and thin."

I had a chance to talk to Aguirre-Sacasa at New York Comic Con last year, although I didn't ask him about the delays in the books.  That seemed like a touchy subject.  What was clear was the passion he, and the artists have for this line.  They are rife with ideas and cannot wait to pursue them.  I'm not sure what the hold up has been for these books, but I'm glad to see them returning.  May 18th and June 1st cannot get here fast enough.
