Anthologies are the little engine that could of the comic book industry. They're a great way to showcase up and coming talent, providing a way for them to get some work published. On the reader side, there's usually something for everyone with a variety of stories. The best ones usually have a central theme about them. The upcoming anthology graphic novel, IF from Alterna Comics is working along those lines with the central theme of science fiction.

The publisher launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the print run of this new title. The plan is to release an IF anthology once a year, each with a different theme. Alterna Comics Founder and Publisher, Peter Simeti has been working on this project for the past five years. Simeti along with 35 other creators are contributing work to the graphic novel with a planned release in October of this year.

Science fiction is a rather broad topic. IF contains a total of 15 stories of time, space, robots, virtual reality, technology gone wrong and right, and other tales from beyond. If you have even the slightest interest in the genre, this is going to be a book you'll want to check out.

The IF Kickstarter campaign is running through August 18th, 2015. Rewards include digital and physical copies of the book itself, plus tote bags, mugs, coasters, t-shirts, and more. It sounds a bit like a PBS telethon with those rewards, but it seems to be working as the campaign is very close to its $2,500 goal in only three days.
