Dark Horse Comics has announced their plan to re-release some classic horror comics beginning this fall with Tales from the Crypt: Volume 4. The undertaking is being worked on with Russ Cochran and being looked after by Cathy Gaines. Additionally the publisher will release Vault of Horror: Volume 3 in January 2014. Each volume will be digitally recolored, using Marie Severin’s original colors as a guide. Tales from the Crypt: Volume 4 collects issues #35–#40, featuring stories drawn by Jack Davis, Joe Orlando, Jack Kamen, Graham Ingels, George Evans, Reed Crandall, Bill Elder, and Bernie Krigstein.
Bill Gaines' Entertaining Comics (aka EC Comics) was home to the works of some giants of the industry including Jack Davis and Wally Wood. This is where some of the most controversial and buzzworthy comics were published in the 1950s with anthologies like Two-Fisted Tales, Weird Fantasy, and Tales from the Crypt.
“I have admired Mike Richardson and Dark Horse for many years and am very pleased to be working with them to bring the remainder of the EC archives to fans everywhere,” said Russ Cochran. “Dark Horse’s strength and clout in the marketplace will open new avenues of distribution for these great comic books.”
Tales from the Crypt: Volume 4 will be available at local comic shops on October 30th, 2013 with a cover price of $49.99. Pretty great timing there, huh?
