In one corner, there's a group of super heroes ready to save the world with their various powers and abilities. In the other, shuffling members of the undead looking to feast on human flesh. It's a tale as old as time...wait, I'm thinking of something else. Anyway, this is the premise of Peter Cline's debut novel Ex-Heroes which was originally published by a small, print-on-demand press. Broadway Books has picked up the title and will be re-releasing it in paperback on February 26th, 2013.
Ex-Heroes picks up with Los Angeles' last survivors clinging to life within the walls of the Mount, a film-studio-turned fortress. Heroes such as Stealth, Gorgon, Regenerator, Ceberus, Zzzap, and The Mighty Dragon are among those still standing. The fate of the human race sits on their shoulders as everyone turns to them for protection against the undead. Unfortunately, they have more than zombies to worry about as some of their former comrades-in-arms have snapped under pressure and are now stalking the ruins of the city.
This is the first book in a trilogy with Ex-Patriots coming on April 23rd, 2013 and Ex-Communication due out on July 9th, 2013.

Super heroes in zombies isn't a relatively new idea, but it's not one that's been done well in some time. As mentioned recently with Marvel's mysterious "Of The Dead" teaser, there hasn't been much in the way of dramatic storytelling when these two genres meet. Instead it's been played up for laughs which is fun but lacks depth. Ex-Heroes looks to change all that.
With all the choices in super powers, which one do you think would be most useful in fighting off hordes of the undead? The healing factor of Wolverine? The mind control of Professor X? Batman's....Batman powers?
