Zombies Zombies Zombies Poster

Review:

Pitch a bunch of zombies against a group of strippers and you’d expect to be onto a winner. Well I would. So too would a handful of filmmakers who have created the “living dead and lap dancers” sub-genre, (the other notable addition to which is Jay Lee’s Zombie Strippers, starring porn starlet Jenna Jameson). Here we have Jason Murphy’s Zombies Zombies Zombies (so good they named it thrice?), released as part of the Rise of the Flesheaters : Zombie Boxset from Revolver Entertainment, as well as a stand alone release.

So, how was my introduction to this emerging trend for flesh that is both bared and eaten? Well, not good to be perfectly honest. I class myself as having quite a high tolerance for low-budget movies and I find it easy to overlook the shortcomings when there’s genuine talent on display. However, with Zombies Zombies Zombies there’s little in the way of talent so the shortcomings are all too apparent.

A batch of crack rocks, contaminated with an experimental cancer cure, is the cause behind this particular outbreak of undead nonsense. The rocks are stolen from a stoner and end up in the hands of a group of crack whores who hang around outside a strip club, hoping to pick up customers after closing time. Once they’ve consumed their share of the stolen booty, they turn into yellow-eyed, blood dribbling zombies. It's then up to a group of strippers, a handful of non-zombie whores and their "wise-cracking" pimp to survive by barricading themselves into the strip club.

To be fair, most of the zombie make-up is pretty damn good. Plenty of peeling flesh and dripping blood, and they pull off some nicely gory kills. The sets used are all proper locations, rather than shoddily built studio efforts. But what lets the film down is very, very wooden acting, some not particularly great dialogue and editing that leaves unbearably long pauses between the actors' lines or events. It just doesn't flow well.

And in a film that tries to build up the suspense of a group of survivors trapped in a strip club, the stilted flow is a major setback. There are some fresh ideas in the movie, though. The main hero, Chris (Sean Harriman) ends up accidentally injected with an antidote to the zombie plague and the only way he can use this against the zombies is to let them eat him. A quick nibble on Chris and they start to shake then explode by way of a passable cheap CGI effect. Letting two zombies at a time into the club to bite Chris is not a bad final act; but it's too little too late, and the preceding hour or so has already put the movie beyond saving.

Video and Audio:

Shot on digital video and offering a choice of 5.1 surround or 2.0, the presentation is problem free and unremarkable.

Special Features:

A couple of extras adorn the disc. First up is a trailer for the movie, one of those cases where you can save 80-odd minutes of your life and catch the best parts of the film in a 60 second trailer. The second is a fairly entertaining blooper reel, mostly just the actors fluffing their lines but their laughter is infectious so it's more engaging than the film itself.
