Some memories remain fonder if you don't revisit them. That's how I felt about this latest set of episodes from The Hitchhiker...

Maybe it's just a sign of the times, too much horror overload... This batch was really not that scary. While volumes 1 & 2 had some of the better episodes from the series, I guess we're starting to see more misses than hits with this one. What isn't lost is the quality of the production... There's some really good performances in this set, Alan Thicke as a would be bad guy in "Tough Guys Don't Whine", Michael Ironside as his normal creepy self in "Dead Man's Curve" and Bill Paxton is a great psycho in "Made For Each Othe"r. What's also missing from most of these episodes is "the shot", The Hitchhiker was famous for topless shots of it's actresses. Only a couple in this volume...

I really can't recommend this volume of The Hitchhiker for those that aren't really fans of the series. A younger viewer will find these to be very tame by today's standards, a older viewer like myself will enjoy the fact that they're each only about 25 minutes long...

Video and Audio:

Presented in its original 4x3 full screen aspect ratio, The Hitchhiker shows its 20+ years. On my 16x9 HDTV you could really see the imperfections and it was grainy. Taking the disc over to my 27" 4x3 Sony Wega, it looked a heck of a lot better. So I'm going to rate it from the medium it was designed for....

As with the previous releases from the series, Volume 3 has the original Dolby 2.0 Stereo soundtrack. Back in the day, that was the best you could get. For what it is, it's acceptable.

Special Features:

Unlike the two earlier volumes, there are none...
