The Collection: (as per the Warner PR release)

Here it is. The scream of the crop. The fear is here. And so is the hope. Because at their center are intrepid souls who dare to look evil in the eye and vanquish it. From The Exorcist (presented in its Original Theatrical Version and the 2000 Version You've Never Seen) to the shocks and surprise of Exorcist II: The Heretic and The Exorcist III to the two versions (by two different directors) of Dominion/The Beginning, this DVD set comprises the scariest and most fascinating collection of movies in modern horror.

Review:

In the early days of HorrorTalk we reviewed The Exorcist: Special Edition and The Exorcist: The Version You've Never Seen, as well as The Exorcist: The Beginning. The first two sequels (although starring Oscar winners Richard Burton and George C. Scott) are nowhere near as good as the original and mostly should be seen to complete your viewing of the series. In 2005 Warner created two versions of the "prequel" to The Exorcist called The Exorcist: The Beginning and Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist. This was due to the studio head's disappointment with Dominion. While neither movie is as good as the original, I liked both of them with Dominion being my favorite of the two.

With a pricetag of $32.95 at the Warner Store this is one collection that is not to be missed! The Exorcist is considered by many to be the scariest film of all time and it wasn't that long ago where just buying the original would cost you almost as much as this entire collection. So get scared out your wits by the original, have a few chuckles at Burton's and Scott's expense with the first two sequesl and enjoy this excellent collection!

Video and Audio:

The versions used in this collection are those from the individual releases of the movies that were released over the last few years. While the older films may not stand up to the newer ones as far as the outstanding quality of the picture, they are a vast improvement over any previous releases of the films. All are presented in various anamorphic widescreens and are in great shape considering the age of the original film and it's two initial sequels.

Each film is presented in Dolby 5.1 surround. This has been an area where Warner has invested more than any other studio that I know of in revamping their film's soundtracks to 5.1 surround. While each film has an impressive soundtrack, my favorite of course is that from the original film. Of the two versions of the original, The Exorcist: The Version You've Never Seen has a cleaner track than The Exorcist: Special Edition (25th anniversary). If you have the equipment, you'll really enjoy the sound from all of the films!

Special Features:

Loaded with featurettes and commentaries this collection has almost everything you've ever wanted in a collection! The total amount of extras is too lengthy to list.
