NYCC 2018: Walkers Get Augmented With The Walking Dead: Our World

Written by James Ferguson

The Walking Dead: Our World spun out of the popular TV show on AMC and it is growing by leaps and bounds. I had a chance to speak with Clayton Neuman from AMC Networks about the game, created in partnership with Next Games, as well as the plans to tie it in to the current season of the show.

“We’ve worked with Next Games to weave upcoming events from the show into the design of the game, giving our fans a unique new platform to interact with the ‘The Walking Dead’ universe," said Clayton Neuman, VP of Games for AMC. "We will continue to innovate and add new content to expand The Walking Dead: Our World, and the upcoming Season 9 missions are a great next step.”

If you're unfamiliar with The Walking Dead: Our World, it's the official game of the TV show, expanding on the universe and allowing fans to play as their favorite characters to fight back hordes of walkers roaming the streets of their neighborhood. You can play on your own or with teams. Unlike some other augmented reality games, The Walking Dead: Our World always has stuff for you to do, whether you're in a crowded city or a desolate corn field. You can play from your couch or out in the open.

These new missions tying into the show will launch the day after each new episode airs and will only be available for a limited time. They'll allow players to collect exclusive in-game items and cards to help in their fight against the undead horde.

In playing this first hand, it's easy to get wrapped up in the fun. We've all dreamed of what we might do during a zombie apocalypse, and now we get to experience this through The Walking Dead: Our World. The game is currently available in the Apple App Store and Google Play. The 9th season is airing now so you'll need to act quickly to get in on those exclusive missions and some sweet loot.
