In Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991), the town of Springwood is a virtual ghost town and the only residents are adults. No children can be found, yet our hero is identified as the last surviving child of Elm Street. Nobody knows who he is and all of the adults are crazy. This version of the town is abandoned for the later crossover film Freddy vs. Jason, where the town is back to normal and any troubled kids are simply shipped off to a mental hospital. Once again characters attempt to regain control of their dreams, but to no avail. We also learn that Freddy is powered by ancient “Dream Demons” and has a child that connects him to the outside world. This film features a stacked deck of cameos (Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp, Roseanne & Tom Arnold), but is also saddled with a weak script. Yaphet Kotto (Alien) appears as a master of dreams, but is benched during the action. The finale was originally presented in traditional red-blue anaglyph 3D both theatrically and on DVD, but sadly not on this Blu-ray edition, a real shame given the technology.

A deaf kid’s hearing aid is used against him as Freddy makes enough noise to make his head explode.
