If there's one thing a horror filmmaker can be sure of, it's that having Sam Raimi's name attached to the project is sure to rouse interest from genre fans. In this case Raimi is producing and Nightwatch (that would be the 1997 Ewan McGregor horror/thriller, not the Russian fantasy action piece from 2004) director Ole Bornedal takes the reigns.
Based on a true story, The Possession is the terrifying story of how one family must unite in order to survive the wrath of an unspeakable evil.
Clyde (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Stephanie Brenek (Kyra Sedgwick) see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Em becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. But as Em’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a Dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.
Starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen) and Kyra Sedgwick (The Close), The Possession is directed by Ole Bornedal (Nightwatch), written by Juliet Snowden & Stiles White, and produced by horror master Sam Raimi along with Robert Tapert and J.R. Young.
The Possession will screen as the penultimate main screen film of the Frightfest weekend at 6.15pm on Monday 27th August.
