Frightfest the 13th is just around the corner. Next month sees London's Leicester Square Empire becoming home to hundreds of horror fans for the five-day horror festival. In advance of the proceedings, I thought I'd take a closer look at some of the films being shown over the weekend.

First off, we have OutPost 2: Black Sun. The film is scheduled to screen on Saturday 25th of August in the second slot of the day, so hopefully the hangovers and cobwebs will be blown out by the opening movie of that day. Outpost 2 is a slightly strange choice for Frightfest; normally the films over the weekend have rarely been seen before outside of limited festival appearances in the rest of the world, but Black Sun has already been released on DVD in Germany in April of this year. Also, it gets its UK DVD release on Monday 27th August, courtesy of Lionsgate Home Entertainment, when most of us will still be enjoying the last day of Frightfest. Still, this is almost certainly the only chance fans will get to see it on the massive Empire Screen 1.

Outpost 2: Black Sun is the sequel to the British independent Nazi zombie movie Outpost (bet you never guessed, huh?) and will be followed by Outpost 3: Rise of the Spetsnaz which is currently in production. Part 2 follows investigative Lena (Catherine Steadman, Salmon Fishing In Yemen, The Inbetweeners) on a trail to find notorious war-criminal Klausener, a German scientist who in the closing stages of WWII was working on a frightening new technology with the power to create an immortal Nazi Army. Her trail leads her to a war zone in Eastern Europe where a NATO task force has been deployed to stop the merciless and brutal killings from an unknown sinister enemy. There she finds Wallace (Richard Coyle), a man who’s been chasing Nazi secrets for many years.  They soon realize that the disturbing and menacing advancing army are no ordinary foe, but a battalion of veritable zombie Nazi Storm Troopers.

Teaming up with a Special Forces Unit, Wallace and Lena venture deep behind enemy lines to fight back the source of the evil army. As they go deep into the bunkers of the Nazi zombies, will they survive the seemingly unstoppable rise of the 4th Reich?

Outpost 2: Black Sun will be released on DVD and Blu-ray by Lionsgate Home Entertainment on 27th August 2012. You can pre-order a copy now, by clicking the cover links below.
