Review:

The next generation of the Allan family is already over its head with its first case. A super powerful demonic entity is wreaking havoc in the town of Gristlewood, creating a monstrous army that is attacking anything and everything. The Allans may have to call in reinforcements if they want to survive this encounter and put down this creature. Will the patriarch suit up again to help them out of this jam?

Gristlewood is a war zone full of complete and utter chaos. This does, however make for some pretty awesome action scenes. Artist Damien Worm showcases some awesome supernatural battles as the Allans use their varied abilities to fight back the forces of darkness. This ranges from green flames to a good old-fashioned shotgun to a werewolf ripping people apart.

Things get even crazier when one of them tries to undo this dark magic with a spell of their own. This backfires, creating a hideous beast merging the bodies of all these other minions. It's a glowing mass of flesh with limbs sticking out in unnatural angles. It is a monster in every sense of the word. This is not something that should exist on this mortal plane.

Even the scenes in the Allan family home have a sense of foreboding. They should be safe here, but there's an eerie feeling associated with this place. This comes through in a great scene where some of them are talking with an ominous red light shining behind them, as if Hell itself is waiting just through the door. It has this otherworldly glow to it, like it's ready to swallow them up hole. It's a nice bit of foreshadowing for what is sure to be more chaos and bloodshed in their immediate future.

A face from the past reaches out to this demonic force to create an alliance. This is interesting, but since Supernatural Dreams is the first October Faction story I've read in a bit, it fell flat. I don't know who this guy is or what his connection to the Allan family is, so it lost some of the impact that long time readers would understand. If anything, it just serves as a reminder that I have to go pick up those back issues.

October Faction: Supernatural Dreams is packed with demonic action with an important family thread running through it. These characters fight against evil and all kinds of things that go bump in the night, but they do it together as a unit. They rely on and love each other and that makes them stronger. I just hope they'll be strong enough to face this latest threat.
