"Jason Dark - Ghost Hunter: Volume 5: Dr. Prometheus" Book Review
Written by Guido Henkel
2010, 61 Pages, Fiction
Released on April 26th, 2010
After taking on the forces of Hell itself without a scratch, Jason Dark turns his focus to the horde of the undead. Dark is called in by the local police to help solve a series of unexplainable deaths. The autopsy reveals that this dead person was already dead! A mad scientist by the name of Dr. Prometheus has made a pact with the devil and now he's creating an army of zombies. It's up to Dark to put a stop to this abomination.
As usual, our hero does all this in about an hour. Since the book is only 61 pages, author Guido Henkel condenses the story down to the bare essentials. Unfortunately, even that lacks any real substance. Dark comes in about a third of the way through the book, figures everything out in maybe three pages and then sets his plan into motion, where he succeeds without any real trouble. As mentioned, the book is short so you would think that each page would be filled with a lot of information to make use of the limited space. That's not the case here as Henkel draws out each paragraph with many unnecessary adjectives and describing things that the readers can easily figure out for themselves.
Also, Henkel should probably look up the definition and proper use of the exclamation point. There's about one every paragraph throughout this volume and I don't think it means what he thinks it means.
I've said in my reviews for the previous volumes how I had such high hopes for this series. Those have been squandered as each book has gotten progressively worse with this one being one of the most awful things I've ever read. It has by far the lousiest Deus Ex Machina ending I've seen in any book as well. It just reeks of lazy writing and poor planning. It's almost as if Henkel got to page 60 and realized that the book could only be 61 pages so he just scribbled a quick ending to get something on paper. There are at least four other books in this series after this one. Needless to say I will not be reading them any time soon.
