Review:

Fetish Dolls Die Laughing follows detective Greer English (Laura Romeo) who is hot on the heels of a sick murderer picking off women in her town. A trail of depravity leads her to a fetish photographer, Billy Tagg (Michael McGovern) who just happens to be possessed by the Tickle Monster. Yes, you read it right, the Tickle Monster. After becoming possessed he begins to kill his female models but can detective Greer figure all this out before it’s too late?

For me, The Tickle Monster isn’t something I’m familiar with so any kind of hark to a childhood monster was lost on me. If it is something people were at some point scared of, this could be amusing or possibly scary (well not from this particular portrayal), but not having a clue what a tickle monster is, it just comes off as rather ludicrous and weird. Weird is good though, and it definitely gets weirder.

The film’s main downfall is how long it manages to be. It is rather low budget and that shows, not that this is a bad thing but when something is made on a shoestring it shouldn’t really clock in at 1hour 40 minutes as it ultimately feels a lot longer. There are a lot of unnecessary scenes which wouldn’t have made much difference not being there, mainly girls having their feet tickled. Once you’ve seen one girl get their feet tickled, you’ve seen them all really.

The acting is pretty enjoyable, I like watching actors ham it up a bit in low budget flicks like this as it makes it funnier. Anything too serious and it just wouldn’t work. The award for best hamming up of a performance here goes to Angelo Bruni who plays detective Leland Tucker, a brilliantly over the top performance which is made all the more amusing by the blunt, classy lines he is supplied with like, “You look like you’ve just been fucked!” This is probably the main reason to watch Fetish Dollss Die Laughing, if you’re looking for a coherent, gripping storyline it isn’t really going to be the one for you, but it doesn’t take itself too seriously which makes up for those downfalls and could potentially make it enjoyable…potentially.

Props to filmmaker David Silvio for making a film based solely on The Tickle Monster, it has originality that’s for sure but it doesn’t execute it all to its full potential.
