EASTLEIGH FILM FESTIVAL
Reading the title of this article you're probably thinking, "Well, duh, of course Dawn of the Dead is in a shopping centre". And you'd be right, but at the same time you'd be missing the point that Eastleigh Film Festival is screening George Romero's 1978 zombie classic in a shopping centre. Well, duh, yourself.
While the programme isn't aimed solely at horror fans, there's a wide selection of both classic films and those with cult appeal. Following the lead of the relevant site screening of Dawn of the Dead, there's also a chance to see the Cohen Brothers' crime comedy The Big Lebowski in a bowling alley. In addtion, festival-goers have the chance to pick the gala opening night screening from a selection of ten films, chosen by BBC Film 2014 critic Danny Leigh, including Cronenberg's The Fly, The Shining, Les Diaboliques and The Elephant Man.
And if that's not enough there's also the opportunity for budding filmmakers from the UK and France to submit their short films for consideration to play alongside the main programme, with a top prize of professional development and seed funding opportunities valued at approximately £5,000 going to the overall winner.
The festival runs from the 22nd - 27th September 2014. For full details, programme and ticketing see the Eastleigh Film Festival website.
