Red 5 Comics has announced a new action / horror series entitled Haunted, in which the entire planet has been overrun by ghosts, demons, and poltergeists. The barrier between our world and the spiritual realm was mysteriously torn apart and now these creatures that were long thought to be mythological have terrorized humanity. Society has crumbled. Now what? Sarah McCallister has managed to survive for thirteen years in this dystopian existence by being touch, smart, and looking out only for herself. When an opportunity to fix the world and put it back to normal presents itself, is she ready to put her faith in strangers for the first time?
Haunted is planned as a four issue mini-series written by Scott Chitwood, illustrated by Danny Luckert, and colored by Ivan Plascencia. It will also be featured in Red 5's 2014 Free Comic Book Day issue. The first issue is set to debut on April 30th, 2014.
"The problem with most ghost stories is that if the characters simply leave the haunted house, all of their problems are over," said Chitwood. "But if the entire world is the haunted house, there's nowhere to run or hide. Imagine the end of Ghostbusters, but with the heroes failing and Gozer taking over the world."
Haunted's lead character is as broken as the world that shaped her. "Sarah survived a traumatic and dangerous childhood, constantly on the run from all manner of horrors," said Chitwood. "But if she is to have any hope of saving the world, she must go against every instinct that has kept her alive so far."
Although the general public hasn't even seen the first issue yet, Haunted has already caught the attention of Hollywood. Brian Singer's Bad Hat Harry Productions has optioned the title to produce an adaptation of the comic. This is a growing trend amount the industry and I'm glad to see movie and TV studios looking to comic publishers big and small for inspiration for the next blockbusters.
Here's the deal though. Red 5 Comics is an independent publisher. They're not Marvel or DC so pre-orders are a big deal. If you want a copy of Haunted on April 30th, 2014, you'll have to pre-order it. Tell your local comic shop that you want the issue or give them order code FEB141420.
