4DIGITAL MEDIA TO RELEASE ABDUCTED ON UK DVD AND BLU-RAY
If there's one thing that's likely to sell a film it's a good healthy dose of controversy. And Mark Harris's Abducted certainly seems to have that, with the plot of the film drawing parallels with the abduction of Madeleine McCann from a Portugal holiday resort in 2007. Regardless of their validity, links like these are bound to set the tabloids on fire when they're always on the outlook for inflammatory headlines. True to form, the UK's enraged pensioner favourite The Sunday Express and non-absorbent tabloid toilet-paper The Daily Star featured the film in a headline story and two-page spread respectively, despite the filmmakers strongly denying any link to the real-life case.
Furthermore, the film has apprently polarised film festival audiences and critics, winning awards and plaudits from some and reactions of shock and disgust from others. Whichever way it goes, the only true measure is to see the film for yourself.
Brace yourselves, the marketing hyperbole is coming...
IS ABDUCTED THE MOST CONTROVERSIAL FILM TO HIT CINEMAS THIS YEAR?
Hitting front page news outlets, including The Express, for its SHOCKING subject matter – crime thriller ABDUCTED is horrifying the media and festival circuit alike prior to its DVD release this March 17th.
ABDUCTED and its highly controversial subject matter follows one man on a bloody path of revenge to unmask the gritty underworld of sex trafficking and abduction. Based on REAL events ABDUCTED is a hard-hitting, and often terrifying look at the reality of these atrocious crimes, and how far one parent will go for justice.
SO WHY THE CONTROVERSY? - ABDUCTED has cultivated the 'marmite effect' on the festival scene both in the UK and US. While critics have awarded the film a slew of Best film nominations, film execs and those of a sensitive disposition have fled screenings due to gut wrenching scenes, which sadly are a true reflection of crimes still taking place today.
So do you have the stomach for it?
