Capcom has announced that the ultimate HD edition of Resident Evil 4 will soon be available for PC digital download via Steam across the world. A retail version will also be released for Windows PC in Europe. Resident Evil 4 first debuted on the Nintendo GameCube back in 2005, later released on the Playstation 2 and Nintendo Wii, and has sense been reborn as an HD digital version on the Playstation Network and Xbox Live Arcade, not to mention mobile versions on iOS. Although I own it, I have yet to play it because I like to just buy games and look at them on a shelf (along with books and movies apparently). Despite this, Resident Evil 4 won a ton of awards including many Game of the Year honors and was highly reviewed. I don't know why it's taken so long for this version to hit the PC market, but fortunately Capcom has sweetened the pot a bit to make it worth the wait.
This version of Resident Evil 4 will be at “the highest visual fidelity ever with stunning HD running at a smooth 60 frames per second for the first time.” I don't know what any of that means but it sounds impressive. Games that pre-order RE4 through Steam will also receive a digital soundtrack containing over 60 tracks as well as a digital artbook. The PC edition of the game will include Steam platform support with Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud, Steam Trading Cards, global leaderboards, and full game controller support. Also built in is everything from the previous releases such as subtitle support and the existing bonus content like the Separate Ways epilogue.
Here's the synopsis of the game as a quick refresher:
In Resident Evil 4, special agent Leon S. Kennedy is sent on a mission to rescue the U.S. President’s daughter who has been kidnapped. Finding his way to a rural village in Europe, he faces new threats that are a departure from the traditional lumbering zombie enemies of the earlier installments in the series. Leon battles horrific new creatures infested by a new threat called Las Plagas and faces off against an aggressive group of enemies including mind-controlled villagers that are tied to Los Illuminados, the mysterious cult which is behind the abduction.
The PC Ultimate Edition of Resident Evil 4 will be available on February 28th, 2014 for $19.99/€19.99.
