It's hard to believe that Mike Mignola's Hellboy is turning 20 years old in March 2014. It seems like only yesterday that he walked out of Hell and into our hearts. They grow up so fast. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Dark Horse Comics has proclaimed March 22nd, 2014 as “Hellboy Day” coinciding with events at local comic shops across the US. The publisher will be offering their retail partners exclusive promotional materials as well as ordering discounts for Hellboy and B.P.R.D. backlist titles. Dark Horse will also produce an all-new sampler featuring two classic Mignola tales: “The Ghoul” and “Another Day at The Office,” plus two new stories by Mignola, Fabio Moon, and R. Sikoryak.
Midtown Comics and Collectables in West Hollywood, CA will be hosting Mike Mignola himself on March 22nd.
Hellboy first showed up in an eight-page feature within Dark Horse's San Diego Comic Con Comics special which was followed by Seed of Destruction #1, beginning his career as the “beast of the apocalypse.” Just before Hellboy Day, fans can pick up the 20 Years of Hellboy hardcover collection on March 19th. This is a deluxe hardcover collecting Mignola's favorite covers and illustrations in a gallery style, from his first drawing of the character through twenty years of publishing.
