I unfortunately missed out on Dredd when it was in theaters and unfortunately, judging by the box office numbers, I wasn't alone. The fanbase has been pretty rabid about it and from the sound of things, it was definitely better than that piece of garbage starring Sylvester Stallone from 1995. Fans of Dredd will be happy to hear that publisher 2000 AD has announced a sequel to the movie in comic book form heading to North America in January 2014.
Entitled Dredd: Underbelly, the one-shot comic picks up a year after the events of the film. Judge Dredd and Judge Anderson are investigating a gruesome mass grave that could be tied to a new drug that has been flooding into the streets of Mega-City One after the fall of the Ma-Ma clan. Dredd: Underbelly is written by Arthur Wyatt and illustrated by Henry Flint. This also marks the first ever US-format comic published directly by 2000 AD.
Dredd: Underbelly was previously published in Judge Dredd Megazine #340 in the UK.
Look for Dredd: Underbelly at your local comic shop or digitally through the 2000 AD webshop, Kindle, Nook, or 2000 AD iPad app in January.
