Abaddon Books has announced that Dan Abnett will be returning to the universe he co-created with artist Richard Elson in Kingdom. Originally appearing in 2000 AD, the series featured a world “in which genetically engineered dog soldiers fought giant maurading insects in a post-apocalyptic future.” How can you not want to read a book with that description? Abnett will be co-writing a new novel entitled Fiefdom, set 100 years after the events of Kingdom with Nik Vincent.
Here's the blurb about Fiefdom from Abaddon Books:
In the isolated wastelands of the southern hemisphere, Gene the Hackman and his fellow Aux listen to the voices of The Masters as humanity hibernates, awaiting the destruction of the indescribably alien Them. In Fiefdom, the action moves into the future and into the northern hemisphere, where Them are a folk memory and the Aux have interbred, creating clans and families that war with one another in the ruins of what was once Berlin. Inspired by the legendary tales of Gene, young Evelyn War begins to question the Aux’s situation as she hears the first rumours about the return of Them.
I haven't read Kingdom yet, but that is something I'm looking to change quickly. I'll read anything that Dan Abnett writes after he and Andy Lanning made me care about the cosmic heroes in the Marvel Universe a few years ago with the Annihilation event. This sounds like a fun book with some crazy monsters.
No release date has been announced yet for Fiefdom.
