Halo-8 Entertainment is now accepting pre-orders for their next mini-series in the Godkiller franchise, Tomorrow's Ashes. These aren't your normal pre-orders though. Readers who purchase the digital / physical bundle will receive ongoing digital comics each month until the story arc is complete. At that time they'll get the collected trade paperback. Unlike some of the other publishers out there, Halo-8 will be sending the digital comics out free of DRM in PDF and CBR formats for users to read however they like on whatever device they prefer.
Godkiller creator and Halo-8 President, Matt Pizzolo thought up this distribution model with the recent Occupy Comics anthology that he organized. That project was driven by Kickstarter that gave people that donated to the cause ongoing digital snipets until the physical book was completed.
"A lot of comics readers these days prefer to 'wait for the trade' before committing to a story, so this enables them to keep up with the new content as it becomes available while they wait for the collected book," said Pizzolo. "This pairs the convenience of digital with the unique experience of holding a physical book, but brings digital upfront since it's the fastest, most efficient way for readers to get content as soon as it's available."
Pizzolo will be reuniting with illustrated Anna Muckcracker Wieszczyk (Lucid, The Continuing Case of Manny Tippitoes), who worked with him on Occupy Comics.
The first Godkiller mini-series, Walk Among Us debuted as a comic book but was later released as an "illustrated film" which I wasn't a fan of despite it featuring the likes of Lance Henrikson and Danielle Harris. There's a motion comic version of Tomorrow's Ashes already in the works. Despite my feelings for the medium, I'm glad to see a publisher expanding outside of the old school ways of distributing content. Check out the details on pricing along with some preview pics below.
The new mini-series Godkiller: Tomorrow's Ashes, Volume 1 "The Scars That Bind" is a 96-page collected book split into 3 digital issues. Halo-8 is charging $6.66 for the 3 digital comics, $16.66 for the collected book, or $19.99 for the Digital/Physical Bundle.
