Here's something I didn't know: Author / artist / owner of an epic beard, Menton3, is also a musician. He's released an album under the name of Saltillo and on February 7th he'll be releasing his second album, a soundtrack for Monocyte, his comic co-written by Kasra Ghanbari from IDW Publishing. The CD will be distributed by Artoffact Records, who re-issued Saltillo's debut album Ganglion last year.
The first two issues of Monocyte are out now and it's definitely a large scale story deserving of a soundtrack. I've listened to the album a few times now and it fits the comic very well. Obviously that makes sense as the music is coming from the same guy that drew and co-wrote the comic. There are 12 tracks in all and they're unlike anything I've ever heard.

The Monocyte soundtrack was described to me as Industrial or trip-hop. I don't have much history with either, but I do have an intimate knowledge of comics and movies. This album is one that you can sit back and listen to with your eyes closed and see a world-spanning film open up in your imagination. Fortunately, you don't have to do that as there's a comic book that goes with it. I've flipped through the first two issues of Monocyte while listening to this and it just adds so much to the experience. I'm looking forward to the final two issues of the book so I can read the full story with the soundtrack playing.
