UK Horror and Cult DVDs coming out on March 1st, 2010
New on Blu-ray:
Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant (£19.99 RRP):Based on the popular series of books by Darren Shan, Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant tells the story of a small town teen who inadvertently shatters a 200 year old truce between warring factions of vampires. Sixteen year old Darren (Chris Massoglia) is your typical teenager; he spends most of his time with his best friend Steve (Josh Hutcherson), earns decent grades, and generally manages to stay out of trouble. But trouble finds Darren when he and Steve make the acquaintance of a vampire named Larten Crepsley (John C. Reilly) while attending a traveling freak show at a local theatre. Transformed into a bloodsucker by Crepsley, Darren joins the Cirque du Freak and quickly ingratiates himself with the unusual cast of characters who populate it, including the Madame Truska the Bearded Lady (Salma Hayek) and the traveling sideshow's towering barker (Ken Watanabe). As Darren works to master his newfound powers as a budding member of the supernatural underworld, he becomes a valued pawn between the vampires and their deadlier rivals, the Vampanese. With tensions between the two sects intensifying, Darren must figure out a means of keeping the coming war from destroying his last vestige of humanity. Patrick Fugit, Orlando Jones, Willem Dafoe, and Jane Krakowski co-star.
Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant is also available on standard DVD.

Dawn of the Dead (£24.99 RRP): The quite terrifying and gory Dawn of the Dead was George Romero's 1978 follow-up to his classic 1968 Night of the Living Dead. But it is also just as comically satiric as the first film in its take on contemporary values. This time, we follow the fortunes of four people who lock themselves inside a shopping centre to get away from the marauding dead and who then immerse themselves in unabashed consumerism, taking what they want from an array of clothing and jewellery shops, making gourmet meals and so on. It is Romero's take on Louis XVI in the modern world: keep the starving masses at bay and crank up the insulated indulgence. Still, this is a horror film after all and even some of Romero's best visual jokes (a Hare Krishna turned blue-skinned zombie) can make you sweat.

Emmanuelle (£15.99 RRP): A beautiful and restless wife of a French diplomat is introduced to an uninhibited world of sexuality. Based on a banned French novel, the film went on to be France's all-time box office smash on its release and is present here UNCUT, for the first time ever in the UK!

Funny Games (£15.99 RRP): In this exploration of our violent society and how depictions of violence reflect and shape our culture, a middle-class family submits both physically and mentally to the torture, violence, and death foisted upon them by two young, unexpected, white-gloved visitors at their vacation retreat near a lake.

The Horseman (£19.99 RRP): Shortly after loosing his daughter to a drugs overdose, Christian receives a horrifying tape of her performing in an amateur porn film. Enraged and unable to come to terms with what he has seen, he sets out to track down those involved. Using his own unique brand of brutal and inventive questioning, he moves closer to locating the final suspect. Along the way, he reluctantly picks up Alice — an awkward young runaway — and an unlikely bond develops that pushes Christian closer to the edge than ever. A multi-award winning Australian movie that mixes elements of 8mm with the graphic reality of Wolf Creek , The Horseman is an unflinching study of revenge and retribution. Powerful and intense, it memorably explores how one man deals with loss and his own inner demons.

Jacob's Ladder (£25.99 RRP): Adrian Lyne's Jacob's Ladder moves in time and space between Vietnam and New York with hallucinatory force. Something bad happened on the Mekong Delta, on October 6, 1971, and it is still affecting war veteran Jacob (Tim Robbins) in Brooklyn as he attempts to live a normal life with coworker and girlfriend Jezzie (Elizabeth Pena). Louis (Danny Aiello), an understanding chiropractor, tries to help him cope with his nightmarish visions — some of which occur at night, while others intrude into his daily life. When Jacob gets a call from Paul (Pruitt Taylor Vince), who was with him in Vietnam, it seems that Jacob is not alone in his visions. The film offers impressive and compelling performances by Pena, Aiello (no ordinary chiropractor), and Ving Rhames and Eriq La Salle (the latter of ER) as Jacob's comrades from Vietnam. Macaulay Culkin appears uncredited as Jacob's young son, Gabe. Director Lyne also guides an unerring interpretation of Bruce Joel Rubin's screenplay in Robbins's powerfully restless, searingly searching performance as Jacob; brilliant editing additionally rounds out this engrossing, disturbing film. Jacob's Ladder is a jolting experience that is not easily forgotten.

Swept into the Bermuda Triangle by a freak storm, the friends spot a passing ocean liner and climb aboard. They thought they'd been saved, but there isn't a soul to be found on the massive cruise ship.
