With the recent news of the forthcoming re-release of the Alien novelization, it was extremely good timing that these images should pop up on Reddit, showing some intimate behind the scenes work by H.R. Giger on the set of the film. While it's not news to most people that the Swiss artist was responsible for the conceptual design of the xenomorph and its lifecycle, it's not so well known that he worked hands on on many of the films props and sets. These pictures give a fascinating insight into the creative process, in a time when CGI was the stuff of science fiction. 2014 marks the 35th Anniversary of the Alien movie, so expect to see a lot more related info this coming year.

Note: The images here are assumed to be in the public domain, although many of the same appear on Cinephilia and Beyond. We're unsure if this is the source, but would like to credit them anyway for their vast collection of cinema history.
